LEWISBURG, (Pa.)–Packwood House Museum is pleased to announce its 2017 Summer Programs for Kids. Each session will be held from 10:30 a.m. until approximately noon on Tuesday mornings from June 13th through August 15th at the museum’s Tour Center, located at 15 North Water Street in Lewisburg. All programs are free, but space is limited so registration is required. If your plans change and you cannot attend a workshop you signed up for, please have the courtesy to call so another child can fill the vacancy in these popular programs. Funding for the programs has been provided for by grants from the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts and the Woodcock Foundation for the Appreciation of the Arts.
June 13 – Folktales, with Fiona Powell
Welsh-born Fiona Powell, dressed as a weaver, will delight kids of all ages with folk tales from around the world as she spins at her wheel. Weather permitting, the program will be held on the museum’s terrace. Open to all ages.
June 20 – The Great Renaldo
Come one, come all! Step right up and see the show! The Great Renaldo will wow you with his 1950s-style magic show. Open to all ages, with some audience participation.
June 27 – Bubble Art Paper, with Susan Colón
Blowing bubbles is even more fun when you use paint to make really cool papers.
We will be having fun, mixed with a little science, to make unique and beautiful papers.
July 11 – Friendship Bracelets, with Colette Heim-Frantz
Students will learn the history and purpose of this Native American craft while they weave and construct their very own friendship bracelets that they can wear or give as a gift by the end of class. Ages 10 and up; limited seating.
July 18 – Drum Circle, with Steve Mitchell
Grammy-award winning drummer Steve Mitchell will teach some basic drumming techniques. He will demonstrate different styles of hand drumming and encourage participants to find their own rhythm. For ages 6 and up; limited seating.
July 25 – Fairy Gardens, with Susan Colón
Back by popular demand, we will once again be making fairy gardens. Children will use simple natural and found objects to make magical fairy gardens.
August 1 – Fairy Lanterns, with Susan Colón
The class will use several techniques and materials to make fairy lanterns to help draw the fairies near!
August 8 – Making Art from Recycled Magazines and Bags, with Barbara Baker
Don’t throw that away! We will be making art from “junk” we often throw out while learning about recycling and caring for our earth. Limited seating.
August 15 – Sun Catchers, with Susan Colón
Children will learn how to make beautiful sun catchers for their windows with all the colors of the rainbow.
